The Love Story...
The other day, I was sitting at my desk working on some jewelry and I kept hearing this peep, peep, peep. I walked outside, thinking there was a bird on the patio and was immediately dive bombed by two mockingbirds. I looked up and saw the CUTEST little mockingbird hopping its way across the grass. Clearly the parents were worried that I was going to hurt their baby and were prepared to defend her.
I know this feeling. The feeling of doing anything and everything to protect someone you love. I rushed back into the house to get my camera to take a couple of photos. When I came back outside, she had hopped her way up onto one of our fountains. When I stepped closer the parents had a mini freak out, so I said (out loud, like a dork), "I'm not going to hurt her, I'm a momma too." Strangely enough the parents settled down and I was able to take a few photos.
She's just the cutest thing ever. All my kids are so excited to have her hopping around the backyard. She's constantly practicing spreading her wings and is taking little "hop-flights" when she gets the courage. The moment the kids get home from school they ask, "Did you see her today, is she still in the backyard? Is she bigger? Is she flying?" Then, they race outside to find her. I love that they appreciate nature and how lucky we are to have this little life to see.
I can hear the little mockingbird outside right now, even as I type. It's comforting, but I know she'll fly away soon and start her own family.

Thanks, Shannon and Jen. :) I can hear her peeping right now! It's so cute.
Thanks for the compliments on the backyard, Jen. I'm in Arizona so everything is blooming like crazy right now. In a month or so it definitely won't be as lush.
